The wealth of monuments in Central Germany and especially in Saxony-Anhalt is above average. More than 60,000 cultural monuments and unique cultural landscapes characterize the region. The monuments from the most diverse epochs are of the highest importance for cultural tourism and are among Saxony-Anhalt's sights. Important historical cultural assets have been recognized in recent years as a World Heritage Site of Humanity and placed under the protection of UNESCO.

The preservation of our cultural heritage as part of history is a task of the state. This also means that it intervenes in the tasks of monument protection in a formative way. The state lives up to its responsibility by protecting monuments from inappropriate changes that destroy the historical significance. It grants the monument owner financial contributions and advises him on the professional preservation.
