Description

Personal changes (e.g. name change due to marriage or divorce) must be noted immediately in the registration certificate Part I and Part II.

In the event of a change of address within the registration district, you will receive a new registration certificate Part I. In the event of a change of address, the registration certificate Part II (old: vehicle registration document) does not need to be presented.

In the event of a change of address outside the registration district, you must apply to the vehicle registration authority responsible for your new main residence for the transfer of the vehicle.

The change must be reported by the owner of the vehicle. If the owner and holder of the vehicle are different persons, the owner is also obliged to report.
You must apply for the change to the authority either in person or through a third party with written authority. The representative must present the power of attorney and, in addition, the identity card or passport with registration certificate.

If you have purchased or leased your vehicle on credit and the financing bank or lessor has received the vehicle registration document or the registration certificate Part II as security, contact them so that they can present the document to the registration authority for modification and proof of the right of disposal.

Rental agreement for the location of the vehicle, if the exact address is not apparent
additionally upon application:
by representative: issued power of attorney and the original or certified copy of your identity card or passport with registration certificate from the registration authority of your place of residence
for companies (GmbH, AG, OHG): excerpt from the commercial register, business registration and power of attorney of the managing director
for associations: extract from the register of associations, identity card and power of attorney of the designated representative(s)
for civil-law companies: provide a complete overview of the partners (usually partnership agreement); Power of attorney and declaration to which natural person the admission is to be granted (confirmed by all partners by signature)

Who should I contact?

The registration authority responsible for your place of residence.
The responsibility depends on the place of residence of the vehicle owner, whereby the main residence according to the identity card is decisive. In the case of legal persons, it is the registered office of the main establishment or the registered office of the branch.

What else should I know?

Before the vehicle documents can be changed to your new name or address, the re-registration must be made at the registration office responsible for you.
The licensing authority automatically forwards the change notification to the tax office.
