Apply for a fishing licence

Description

If you want to go fishing or go fishing, you need a fishing license. You must have this with you and show it when requested.

A distinction is made between:

fishing licence, which entitles the holder to all permitted fishing methods, and
Youth, special and non-fish fishing licences.

Fishing licences are issued for 1 to 5 years and for life.

You do not need a fishing license if you,

assist a holder of a fishing licence in fishing,
fishing during a course, under the supervision of the instructor.

For fishing in the respective waters, you also need a fishing permit (fishing license), which you can purchase from the local fishing clubs or associations and the professional fishermen.

Requirements

Fishing permit:

To obtain a fishing license, you must successfully pass the fishing exam. There you must have sufficient knowledge of the following topics:

fish species,
the management of fish stocks and water management,
fishing gear and its use,
the treatment of fish caught
as well as the provisions of animal, water, nature conservation and animal health law which are important for fisheries.

To be admitted to the exam, you must attend a 30-hour preparatory course that provides the knowledge required for the exam. Such courses are offered by fishing clubs and educational institutions.

Youth fishing licence:

Young people can only obtain a youth fishing license, for which they must have passed a youth fishing examination. The youth fishing license only entitles the holder to catch peacefish.

Non-predatory fishing licence:

Persons who only want to fish peacefish have the possibility to obtain a non-predatory fishing license.

Special fishing licence:

Persons who, due to a disability, are unable to take a fishing examination appropriate to their age have the opportunity to obtain a special fishing licence. However, the special fishing licence only entitles the holder to fish peace-fishing if accompanied by an adult who holds a fishing licence.

Which documents are required?

Certificate of passing the exam
Equality by the Upper Fisheries Authority
proof of training as a professional fisherman
written declaration pursuant to Annex 4 of the AB-FischG
Passport photo (not older than 1 year)
If necessary. the applicant's last fishing licence

What are the fees?

Fees for the acceptance of examinations:

• Fisherman's examination from the age of 18 – 60,00 Euro
• Fisherman's examination up to the age of 18 – 30,00 Euro
• Friedfischfischerprüfung from the age of 18 – 55,00 Euro
• Friedfischfischerprüfung up to the age of 18 - 25,00 Euro
• Youth fishing exam – 25,00 Euro
• Confirmation of examination certificates for the juvenile or non-predatory fish fishing examination by the fisheries authority – 5,00 Euro

Fees for issuing fishing licences:

• Fishing licences and fishing licences for 1 - 4 years: 10,00 Euro per year
• Fishing licences and fishing licences for 5 years: 40,00 Euro
• Fishing licences and fishing licences for life: 150,00 Euro
• Fishing licences and fishing licences for young people aged 14 to 18: EUR 4.00 per year
• Special fishing licences for 1 - 5 years: 4,00 Euro per year
• Special fishing licences for life: 65,00 Euro
• Youth fishing licenses: 4,00 Euro per year.

In addition, the Land of Saxony-Anhalt levies a fishing levy for measures of fisheries protection, fish species protection, fisheries research and special measures of fisheries conservation:

• Fishing licences and fishing licences for 1 - 5 years: 6,00 Euro per year
• Youth fishing licences and special fishing licences: EUR 1.00 per year
• Life fishing licences: 125,00 Euro

What deadlines do I have to pay attention to?

Fishing examinations take place at least 1x a year. The date is set by the counties or independent cities (lower fisheries authorities).

Registration for the fisherman's examination must be made no later than 4 weeks before the examination date.

Process flow

You can apply for the fishing licence in person or in writing. Another person can also apply for you. You must issue a power of attorney to this person.

What else should I know?

In addition to the mandatory course, an online application can be used to prepare for the written part of the fisherman's examination. The online application makes it possible to assess the level of knowledge acquired by taking a simulated fisherman's examination. Like the "correct" exam, the exam simulation comprises a total of 60 questions, each containing 15 questions from the fields of fish science, equipment science, hydrology and law.
