Persons who have suffered damage to their health as a result of detention for political reasons in the GDR or in other eastern territories in accordance with the Federal Displaced Persons Act and whose surviving dependents are granted a pension and/or medical and sick treatment in accordance with the Criminal Rehabilitation Act on application.

Persons who have been rehabilitated in court after unlawful deprivation of liberty in the GDR receive compensation for imprisonment and reimbursement of fines, costs and expenses upon application.

Former political prisoners and their surviving dependents can apply for a pension and/or medical and sick treatment in accordance with the Prisoner Assistance Act.
