You will receive a certificate of your marriage from the registrar when you register your civil marriage. You will need this, for example, for the priest who performs the church wedding. The certificate is only issued in connection with the marriage. It does not have to be applied for separately.

Marriage certificates also provide proof of the marriage. These are used, for example, to change identity documents or in pension matters. The marriage certificates can also be ordered later by the spouses, their ancestors and descendants as well as other persons who can prove a legal interest.
