Submit proof of activity and income requested at the end of the professional start-up period to the Künstlersozialkasse for examination

Description

As a professional beginner, you will be insured during the first three years of your self-employed artistic or journalistic activity even if your earned income does not exceed the limit of EUR 3,900 per year. The Künstlersozialkasse will review your income declarations after this initial period of employment has expired.

You are required to provide information and submit documents in the course of this verification.

The information and documents relate, among other things, to

in which areas you are self-employed as an artist or journalist,
the amount of your earned income from these activities,
in which areas you are also active
from which types of income your earned income is derived.

The Künstlersozialkasse uses this information to check whether you continue to meet the requirements for compulsory insurance or eligibility for subsidies under the Artists' Social Insurance Act.

If you do not provide your information in time or incompletely, you jeopardize your insurance status or subsidy entitlement.

Prerequisites

You are currently subject to compulsory insurance or eligible for subsidies via the artists' social insurance fund.
Your period as a beginner has ended.
You have not exceeded the minimum income limit of EUR 3,900 per year at least once during the period in which you started your career.
You have been requested by the Künstlersozialkasse to disclose your income situation for the audit.

Required documents

Completed online application or free response to the written request from the Künstlersozialkasse (artists' social insurance fund)
Contracts with your clients
Statements from your clients regarding your remuneration, fees, royalties
Invoices issued by you together with the bank receipt of the invoice amounts
Income tax assessment notices or profit and loss statements

The documents should not be older than 6 months. If you send your notification by mail, it is sufficient to enclose a copy of the documents listed here.

Procedure

The Künstlersozialkasse (Artists' Social Insurance Fund) will send you a letter asking you to provide evidence that you are currently carrying out your self-employed artistic or journalistic activities on a gainful basis.

You can submit your response online or by mail.

Online notification:

Access the online form on the federal portal verwaltung.bund.de. This will guide you step-by-step through the required information, which you can enter electronically.
Note: You will need a valid ELSTER certificate to log in to the online form. Alternatively, you can use your electronic identification document.
It will take you approximately 20 minutes to complete the online application.
First, enter your personal details, including your insurance number. You will find this on the letters from the Künstlersozialkasse in the top right-hand corner.
On the next page, you will first receive general information.
Then you provide information on your activity certificates and upload them directly, if available.
After that, you answer questions about your proofs of income and upload them - if available - as well.

Notification by mail:

Send the requested proof of activity and income to the Künstlersozialkasse.
Please also include your insurance number. You will find this on the top right of the letter from the Künstlersozialkasse.

After receiving your reply, the Künstlersozialkasse will check your information. You will receive a written notification from the Künstlersozialkasse about the result of the check.
