Please call the relevant office in advance to clarify which documents must be submitted in each individual case.

General:

• Application form (prepared by the driving license authority)
• Proof of name, address, place and date of birth by presenting your identity card or passport
• Photograph that complies with the provisions of the Passport Ordinance (biometric suitability of the passport photo)
• Current registration certificate from the registration office responsible for the main place of residence (registration certificate must only be submitted if no valid identity card is available)
• Details of previous possession of a domestic or foreign driving license
• Driving school providing training, if applicable (if driving tests are required - see notes)
• Certificate of good conduct stating the purpose of "new driver's license" must be applied for at the residents' registration office responsible for the main place of residence (certificate of good conduct)

Classes AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE, L, T:

• Eye test certificate from optician or certificate/ophthalmologist's certificate (not older than 2 years)
• Proof of first aid training

Classes C, C1, CE, C1E, D, D1, DE, D1E:

• Ophthalmologist's certificate (not older than 2 years)
• Certificate of medical examination (not older than 1 year)
• Proof of first aid training

Additionally for categories D, D1, DE, D1E:

• Proof of suitability for the special requirements according to
  Annex 5 No. 2.2 FeV (not older than one year)
