If you would like to study in Germany, this may be subject to conditions such as successfully completing a language course. You can also apply for a residence permit for this study preparation.

Specifically, you can already be granted a temporary residence permit if

• You have been admitted to full-time study by a state university, a state-recognized university or a comparable educational institution, but admission is subject to conditions, for example proof of completion of your Bachelor's degree.
• You have been admitted to full-time study by a state university, a state-recognized university or a comparable educational institution, but admission is subject to the condition that you first attend a preparatory college or a comparable institution. You do not necessarily have to submit an admission letter for this.
• You have been admitted to part-time study by a state university, a state-recognized university or a comparable educational institution.
• you have been accepted to take part in a preparatory language course without having already been admitted by a higher education institution.
• you have been accepted by a company to complete an internship in preparation for your studies.

When deciding whether to issue your residence permit, the Foreigners' Registration Office may obtain opinions from the university or other institutions approved for training or further education on questions relating to the study requirements.

The residence permit for studying will be issued for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 2 years.

If you are participating in an EU or multilateral program with mobility measures, for example the ERASMUS+ program of the European Union, or if you are covered by an agreement between 2 or more higher education institutions, you will be granted a residence permit for at least 2 years.

As a rule, your livelihood and health insurance cover must be guaranteed for the duration of your stay.

The residence permit allows you to work up to 120 days or 240 half days per year. You can also take on a part-time student job.

If you have not yet reached the age of 18, your parents or legal guardians must agree to your stay in Germany.
