Apply for vocational training allowance
Description
The vocational training allowance (BAB) helps you cover your living costs if you cannot live with your parents during your training. This may be the case, for example, if your training place is too far away from your parents' home or if you already have your own family and household.
As a rule, you can only receive the vocational training allowance for your first training. In exceptional cases and under strict conditions, however, you can also receive the vocational training allowance for your second training, even if you have already completed your first training. You can also receive vocational training assistance for vocational preparation measures (BvB) and in the preliminary phase of assisted training (AsA).
If your application is approved, you will receive the vocational training allowance
- in the case of vocational training: for 18 months
- for other educational measures: for 12 months
After that, your vocational training allowance can be extended, provided your training or measure has not yet ended. You can also receive the vocational training allowance for shorter periods.
It does not matter whether you are undergoing in-company or external vocational training. The only important thing is that it is a recognized training occupation. Vocational training in accordance with Part 2 of the Nursing Professions Act is eligible for funding if it is carried out in a company. In principle, training abroad can also be supported with the vocational training allowance, but there are additional requirements for this.
Aid for school-based vocational preparation measures cannot be granted.
How much the BAB will be in your case depends on your income, because this will be counted towards the BAB. You can even work a mini-job alongside your training without this mini-job being counted towards your BAB.
Your parents' income will only be counted if it exceeds certain allowances. This also applies to the income of the person to whom you are married or in a civil partnership. If you are taking part in a vocational preparation training measure, no income is usually taken into account.
The vocational training allowance is paid monthly in arrears. If you are not entitled to vocational training allowance for the full month, you will receive one thirtieth of the monthly amount for each calendar day.
If you interrupt your training due to illness, you will continue to receive vocational training allowance until the end of the third calendar month following the onset of the illness, at most as long as the training relationship continues. The day of the illness counts towards this three-month period.
The vocational training allowance is paid as a grant; you do not have to repay the benefit.
In order to receive the vocational training grant, you and your vocational training must be eligible.
