The Environmental Audit Act grants environmental verifiers the right to confirm compliance with the requirements of the European Eco-Audit System (EMAS) to organisations (industrial, service or other institutions). For this purpose, environmental verifiers must undergo a special approval procedure and prove the necessary expertise and reliability.

Environmental verifiers are approved for one or more sectors.
In these, they can issue the attestations and certificates required by the legislator, provided that they have the areas of approval specified in the respective regulation.

The quality of the environmental verifiers is ensured by the legally regulated approval and supervisory procedure.
